The name Luca means "bringer of light" in Latin. It is associated with the shortest day and the longest night of the year—a day of roaming evils. Spinning, baking, and washing were forbidden on this day. A rhyme goes: If you stand on Luca's chair, witches you will see beware. Witches come and go, watch out and avoid them.
